5 Ways to Practice English Pronunciation

Learning the skills to modify your accent is important, but it is equally important to diligently practice those skills. Practicing will help you generalize the skills you learned in training sessions. I understand that finding the time to practice can be hard, so here are a few ideas to get you practicing:

  1. Label your environment - Write words with your target sounds on post-its and put them around your home. Practice those words when you see them. Remove them once you feel like you have mastered them. Remember to add new ones.

  2. Sing songs - Look up the lyrics to your favorite songs and highlight words with your target sounds. Sing those songs whenever you have the chance (e.g., while driving, while washing dishes, etc.).

  3. Watch shows/movies with English subtitles - Practice when you hear your target words by repeating them.

  4. Read/listen to audiobooks - Same as above.

  5. Make a list of idle time - Keep a list of your target words on your phone and practice them when you have a few minutes (e.g., waiting for your coffee to brew).

During training sessions, we will target words that are the most functional for you. Words that you frequently use and are highly relevant to you, so remember to always keep your list updated.
